This June, Wandsworth Lifelong Learning is offering a practical and supportive programme of short courses designed specifically for new and aspiring managers who want to build strong leadership and management skills from the outset.

From Colleague to Manager: The Mindset Shift
3 June | 9.30–11.30
Moving from colleague to manager is a significant transition. This session explores what it really means to step into a leadership role, helping you navigate early performance management conversations, build effective teams and support others through learning and development. You’ll also look at how to maintain your own personal effectiveness, resilience and confidence as a new manager.
Managing Performance Early
4 June | 9.30–11.30
Laying the right foundations early makes all the difference. This course focuses on setting clear expectations, giving constructive feedback and addressing issues proactively. You’ll gain practical techniques to support team performance and establish positive, professional working relationships as you move into management.
Building High‑Performing Teams
25 June | 9.30–11.30
Strong teams don’t happen by accident. In this session, you’ll explore how to build collaboration, trust and open communication, while recognising individual strengths and setting shared goals. The course also covers handling conflict constructively and supporting your team to develop, grow and perform at their best.
Change Leadership at Team Level
25 June | 13.00–15.00
Change is a constant in today’s workplaces. This final session supports new managers to lead their teams confidently through periods of change. You’ll learn how to communicate effectively, keep people engaged, manage resistance and maintain motivation and resilience during transitions.
Taken together, these courses offer a clear and supportive learning pathway for anyone ready to grow as a manager and lead with clarity, confidence and purpose.
