Apprenticeships and Wandsworth Lifelong Learning
Apprenticeships combine paid work with structured training to help people gain recognised qualifications and practical skills. They’re open to both new recruits and existing staff who want to progress in their career.
We work with employers of all sizes to design programmes that build capability and confidence across the workforce. 91% of our apprentices secure employment or further study after completing their programme.
How Apprenticeships Work
Apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours in ‘off-the-job’ training, designed to develop new skills and knowledge beyond everyday tasks. This can include:
- Classroom or online lessons
- Mentoring, shadowing, or practical learning
- Industry visits and project work
Each apprentice is supported by a dedicated Skills Coach, regular progress reviews, and access to online learning resources.
Funding and Recruitment
Apprenticeships are a cost-effective way to grow your workforce:
- Large employers (with a pay bill over £3 million) fund training through the Apprenticeship Levy.
- Smaller employers contribute up to 5% of the cost, with the Government covering the rest.
- Levy-paying employers can also transfer funds to help smaller organisations.
- We can support you with recruiting new apprentices or developing existing staff.
