Why Youth Programmes Matter More Than Ever

Recent findings from Alan Milburn’s Young People and Work Interim Report have highlighted a growing challenge facing the UK: nearly one million young people aged 16–24 are not in education, employment or training (NEET). The report describes this as a “crisis of opportunity” and warns of the long-term impact on confidence, wellbeing and future prospects.

The report notes that being out of education and employment can have long-term consequences, affecting confidence, wellbeing, future earnings and career prospects. It also highlights the importance of early support, meaningful work experience, skills development and personalised guidance to help young people move forward.

At Wandsworth Lifelong Learning, our youth programmes are designed to do exactly that. We support young people to build confidence, develop employability skills, explore career options and take positive steps towards education, training or work.

Whether someone needs careers advice, mentoring, support with applications, work experience opportunities or help developing their skills, targeted programmes can make a real difference in helping them take their next step.
