Steps 2 Success – Employability Course for Schools

Responding to the 2020 corona virus pandemic: unemployment levels have been rising sharply over just a few months, and casual workers and young people looking to enter the labour market for the first time are likely to face higher barriers to employment in times of crisis.

Wandsworth Council Lifelong Learning’s BEST team (Business and Education Succeeding Together) has designed a course for students, age 14+, to provide support for entry into the jobs market.  This exciting new development will help your students to gain the necessary skills for their next steps into the world of education and employment.

What’s on Offer?

Participants will achieve a level 1 accredited employability qualification, which includes the following timetabled sessions:

  • Self-Assessment
  • Developing effective communication skills for the workplace
  • Interview skills
  • Positive Attitudes and Behaviours at Work
  • Making informed career and progression choice
  • Preparing for an interview

In addition to the accreditation, schools will be able to select one of the following options:

  • 1:1 career guidance session
  • Mock interviews
  • CV support
  • Additional unit

Gatsby Benchmarks

As well as, providing vital support for young people, the course will help you to work towards the Ofsted ‘personal development’ judgement and ensure that the following Gatsby benchmarks are met:

  • Addressing the needs of each pupil
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Personal guidance
When Does it Start?

The course will be run throughout the Autumn Term and it is a great opportunity to get ahead and offer the vital support that your students need as they prepare for life after school.
