Learning at Work Week 2020 – a Tale of How to Change Direction Quickly

The photo above depicts a familiar scene of the lockdown experience for many people. Juggling work, training, caring, and anything else you might want to throw into the mix, it’s been a period that we will never forget.

Ironically, Wandsworth Lifelong Learning (WCLL) had just completed the marketing for Learning at Work Week (LaWW) and the next day – lockdown!  With LaWW just a few weeks away we had to respond quickly and with agility to move our delivery from physical venues to provision online.

No easy feat and, with little time to prepare before the launch of the courses, the team got to work and prepared the marketing, learning platform and administration to meet the challenge.  It was hard going but with skill, determination and teamwork, WCLL delivered quality courses on time.

Thank you!

The response was amazing, and people queued up to register their interest and enrol on the workshops and accredited courses.  Most of the sessions were filled, much to the disappointment of learners who missed out.

There has been very positive feedback from the people who attended and the experience has generated a desire to explore more of the learning opportunities provided by WCLL.  Here’s what some of them said:

“Just want to say how brilliant I think the courses have been so far.  The trainers have been amazingly supportive of everyone and provide exceedingly good advice…The tools, advice, and support have transformed my feelings of being very overwhelmed, to feeling empowered and able to take on new challenges.“

“I’ve just finished the class – it was excellent; the tutor is extremely good – really knows her stuff!!!”

“I have just finished the session about Building Resilience for Success, and it was great.”

“I just finished a course, and it was amazing, really helpful with lots of information to take away and put into practice.”

It’s been a steep learning curve, but we rose to the challenge and met the expectations of our learners.  On-line learning has now become become an important part of our learning portfolio and WCLL will continue to lead the way on this exciting new development, with an innovative and imaginative blend of online and physical venue delivery (when allowed).  Wherever we are, please join us!

We are adding new courses to our portfolio every week.  Take a look at what we have to offer here or email edlifelong@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk for more information.
